The Millennia Collection
of Glorious Christmas Music, Songs and Carols
A significantly new family of Christmas music products planned
for future release. Each product combines beautiful Christmas
music with wonderful text and lyrics and rich images of great
art and illustration.
THE MUSIC: Authentic audio recordings by some of the greatest
recording artists, musicians, choirs and orchestras of the 20th
century, including many of the original performers for the best
selling holiday songs (12 CDs).
These beautiful songs and carols are arranged in a variety of
formats, including vocal arrangements for solo performers and
choirs, and instrumental arrangements for great orchestras and
other classical groups, as well as for specific musical instruments,
such as organ, panpipes, brass, bagpipes, carillon bells, hand
bells, Celtic harp, and music boxes.
THE TEXT: An historical perspective of how Christmas music developed
from early times, original lyrics in vernacular with English translations
for all 170 titles, and other interesting anecdotal information
about the composers and Christmas customs and traditions.
This authoritative perspective also serves as an excellent primer
of the development of Christmas music since the birth of Christ.
It tells when and where the selection was composed; it provides
brief biographical information about the composers of the lyrics
and music; it relates interesting anecdotal information about
either the composer or the selection, or both.
The text is accompanied by a supportive and extensive Bibliography,
which includes practically every major book written on or about
the topic, together with Notes, a Glossary of musical terminology,
and an elaborate set of Indices including Title Index, Authors/Persons
Index, Century Index, Calendar Index, Origins Index, and Musical
Classification Index.
Stories of Christmas customs and traditions are neatly woven into
the fabric of the text, e.g., St. Nicholas and his evolution into
Santa Claus is described and timely illustrated under the song
title "'Twas The Night Before Christmas."
THE ILLUSTRATIONS: Beautiful fine art and illustrations, perhaps
the greatest collection of Christmas art ever assembled9works
contemporary to the country and era when the music was composed.
Great art and illustrations not only bring color, but also provide
the consumer with images that more accurately reflect the artistic
view of themes about music and Christmas in a given country or
era. Thus, the consumer can enjoy Christmas Nativity scenes in
richly illuminated Medieval manuscripts, or Renaissance paintings
by Bottecelli and Fra Angelico, or nostalgic American holiday illustrations
by Norman Rockwell and his 20th-century contemporaries, especially
those of the 1940s and 1950s.
